In celebration of Habitat for Humanity’s 25th anniversary, Otara Gunewardene was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for Habitat Sri Lanka.

Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka is an international non-profit organization dedicated towards providing every family in Sri Lanka with a stable and safe place to call home.

Otara’s support to Habitat Sri Lanka and its work dates back to 2004 when she helped the organization during the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami with its rebuilding efforts in the Southern Province, garnering the support of donors and volunteers to raise funds.

Inspired by Habitat’s work, she also sponsored the construction of 13 homes for flood prone families in the district of Kalutara.

“I look forward to supporting the good work done by Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka in bringing tangible changes to people’s lives, which is what I have always done and continue to do. I always look at engaging in work that benefits the people, animals and the environment; and Habitat for Humanity’s commitment towards creating ‘Habitats’ for people in need, is a vision I have always felt strongly about.” said Otara Gunewardene at the announcement ceremony.
