Thousands of acres of forest have been cut down in Wilpattu and the surrounding areas over the last few years. This has resulted in acres and acres of dry, barren land. With this in mind, the Otara Foundation recently partnered with the Sri Lanka Army in an initiative to reforest Wilpattu and the nearby regions.

Otara met with Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake and Colonel Ravi Hearth for initial discussions. This was followed by the planting of the very first Kumbuk sapling and a donation of water tanks by the Otara Foundtion.
