Giving to the less fortunate has always been high on the list of priorities for ODEL. Soon after the end of the war, ODEL conducted a campaign titled ‘Celebrate and care’ to collect clothing for people in need. ODEL’s most recent project was the handing over of essential items to the IDP’s at Menik Farm and Thoppigala, through the NGO Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka www.hfhsl.org. The list of items distributed to the two places with an official from ODEL present, included T-shirts and other assorted clothing for men, women and children as well as single rule, square rule, double rule and blank exercise books. In recognition of her interest and commitment to displaced persons, Habitat for Humanity recently appointed Otara as their ambassador. She will be actively involved in the massive undertaking of housing projects which will be handled by this NGO in the very near future.
